Alexia Clark, Sierra Johnson, Amanda Latham, Holly Latham, Hunter Probert, Abbey Tetterton, Amelia Woolard and Jada Woolard of Beaufort County have been awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award by Girl Scouts–North Carolina Coastal Pines, which is the second-highest achievement in Girl Scouting. The award symbolizes Girl Scout Cadettes’ accomplishments in Girl Scouting and their community as they discover their strengths and take action to make the world a better place.

For their Girl Scout Silver Award project, titled Wee Pirates Play Outside in Bath, the girls wanted to encourage the children of Bath to play outside and enjoy their beautiful town. Their goal was to create outdoor play areas in vacant areas and make some additions to existing play areas. They decorated the hopscotch board at Lawson’s Walk with drawings of animals and gave a tour of Lawson’s Walk during Bath Fest. To publicize their efforts, they created brochures and a display for Bath Fest, as well as placemat brochures for local businesses. The troop also decorated a fence planned a butterfly garden for Bath Elementary.

All girls are members of Troop No. 3556 led by Hope Woolard and Anita Woolard.

Clark is the daughter of Charles and Tina Clark of Bath and has been a Girl Scout since 2009; Johnson is the daughter of Loretta and Sammy Johnson of Pinetown and has been a Girl Scout since 2008; Amanda and Holly Latham are the daughters of Candace Gibbs and Larry Latham of Bath and have been Girl Scouts since 2012; Probert is the daughter of Jeffrey and Sharon Probert of Bath and has been a Girl Scout since 2007; Tetterton is the daughter of Fred and Jennifer Tetterton of Bath and has been a Girl Scout since 2012. About the Silver Award

The Silver Award is the highest honor a Girl Scout in the sixth through eighth grades can earn. The Silver Award recognizes the work of Girl Scout Cadettes who demonstrate leadership skills culminating in 50 hours or more dedicated toward a service project that makes a difference in their community. The service project can be completed as an individual or with a group. If accomplished as a group, each girl is responsible for a specific part of the project and is required to evaluate her contribution to the project and to the group.
