Mrs. Chris Rose Kinlaw Pender, 65, passed away peacefully after an extended illness at her home on Sunday, May 10, 2015, surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Freedom Baptist Church, 234 Snow Hill St., Ayden, officiated by Pastor Worth Forbes.
Chris was born in Washington to Mr. Durwood Rose and the late Juanita Jolley Rose. She graduated from Washington High School in 1967 and received a degree in nursing from Pitt Community College. Chris resided in Ayden for over 30 years. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. After retiring from nursing, she opened several secondhand retail shops. She loved to go to auctions and yard sales searching for treasures. She was a woman of many talents and enjoyed a variety of hobbies including making and repairing stained glass, refurnishing furniture, playing games, gardening, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her father, Chris is survived by her husband, Wade Pender; son, John Kinlaw and wife Nonie, of Beaufort; brother, Robbie Rose and wife Stephanie, of Washington; aunt, Barbara Hardy and husband Bob Ray, of Ocracoke; niece, Chrissy Rhem and husband Jason, of Washington; niece, Meagan Rose of Washington; special cousin and “second son” Kevin Hardy and wife Laura, of Ocracoke, as well as multiple cousins and her beloved fur “grandbabies.”
The family would like to thank all of Chris’s wonderful friends that have gone above and beyond to help her during this difficult time. They would also like to thank Home Health and Hospice Care of Greenville for their compassion and care. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an animal organization of one’s choice.
