Miss Kimberly Jacobson has been awarded Teacher of the Year for Eastern Elementary School for the 2015-2016 school year. Miss Jacobson began her teaching career 13 years ago in Minnesota, while earning a master’s in education. Shortly after relocating to North Carolina, she added on a reading specialist licensure and achieved National Board Certification with a literacy certificate. Her passion for learning is shown daily in her classroom. She has been in N.C. for 12 years. For the past two years she has been in kindergarten for Beaufort County Schools at Eastern Elementary School. “Kindergarten is very rewarding for me, but also extremely important to me as I work diligently with families to build a strong foundation of skills which will impact my student’s success in the future.” This past school year Miss Jacobson achieved a Balanced Literacy Modeled Classroom status as well, which allowed her to reflect and improve her literacy techniques used in the classroom with her students. She has been involved in various committees over the past 13 years, and the two that are most dear to her include her work with the PBIS model and a Peace Committee she and past students formed. In addition to her work with students, Miss Jacobson has facilitated numerous National Board Support sessions for candidates and has also just recently taught a CEU course at the Beaufort County Community College. Melissa Dana, principal at Eastern Elementary School, states, “She epitomizes what a teacher of the year should be. She has a desire to see all her students succeed and grow to their potential. She is extremely knowledgeable about elementary content and students. Also, she is a natural leader with her colleagues.” A parent from this past school year, Laney Hodges, says, “Kimberly Jacobson is a huge asset to our school system in Beaufort County. She is passionate about her students and teaching as a whole. Her classroom is a place where children feel empowered to learn. She went above and beyond the scope and sequence of the state’s standards. My daughter has left her kindergarten year with a love of school, a love of learning, and the foundations of reading and math to take her far into the future.” Miss Jacobson is eager to meet her new kindergarten students at Open House this Friday, August 21st from 3-5 p.m. at Eastern Elementary School.
