Close call: Hyde County couple rescued

LIBERTY HEALTHCARE | CONTRIBUTED QUICK RESPONSE: A Hyde County couple was rescued from a water canal in Swan Quarter by a swift-water rescue team after their car hydroplaned and went into the canal. The woman rescued was named Valerie Spencer, and she works as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Cross Creek Health Care in Swan Quarter. Her husband is Michael Spencer. The rescuers were Kevin Ellsworth of the Raleigh Fire Department and Keith Gaudette of the Chapel Hill Fire Department. Pictured is Valerie Spencer with the two rescue team members and a photo of the couple’s submerged car. Liberty Healthcare (Cross Creek’s parent company) posted the pictures on its Facebook page and thanked the rescue team for jumping into action.
