SWAN QUARTER — Hyde County residents can embrace the spirit of Halloween while also promoting healthy living at the “Scurry the Quarter” 5K Glow Run scheduled for Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at O.A. Peay School in Swan Quarter.

The run is sponsored by Hyde County Cooperative Extension and is meant to encourage members of the community to live a healthy life with exercise. All proceeds from the event will go to Hyde County 4-H Club.

According to a newsletter announcement from the Extension, “the race is part of our goal of serving our community with health-oriented events in mind. We are excited to continue building a very healthy community involving everyone. The objective is to have fun, be healthy and improve community awareness.”

The event is for individuals ages 5 and up, and participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Prizes will be given to the top runners and for the most creative costumes.

According to the event website, the race will begin near the O.A. Peay School parking lot, go down Main Street, turn left near the old courthouse building to then loop around the new courthouse building, turn left onto Oyster Creek Road, turn right to get back onto Main Street and then end back at the school. A water station will be located halfway along the run.

Those interested should register by Oct. 15 to be guaranteed a T-shirt, which they will receive at the 5:30 p.m. check-in time before the race, along with glow necklaces.
