Police have arrested the man believed responsible for the shooting death of a Washington man on Sunday night.
Tuesday, Washington Police arrested Marquelle Neville Boyd, 19, of Blounts Creek, in Washington. Boyd was charged with one count of murder in relation to the death of Akeem Javal Williams, 25, of Van Norden Street in Washington.
According to Lt. William Chrismon, spokesman for the police department, Williams’ death was the result of a fight between the two men that happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, near West Seventh and Gladden streets in Washington.
“They just encountered each other in the street and got into an argument,” Chrismon said.
Williams was transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital, according to authorities. The pistol allegedly used by Boyd was recovered during the investigation, said Washington Police and Services Director Stacy Drakeford.
Williams made the news in April of 2014, when an SUV he was driving veered across River Road in Washington and hit a supervisor with Lee Electrical Construction, part of a crew working in the area of Christian Service Camp Road. The injured electrical worker survived, but Willams was jailed under a slew of related charges.
Boyd had not had any major run-ins with police before Sunday’s incident, according to officials.
In a press release, Chrismon expressed the police department’s appreciation for both the assistance of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the residents who shared information with police.
