MASSIVE DONATION: Daniel Bergevin, Jim Kozuch, Brooks Patti and Steve Lee pose with a check worth $1,025 for the Washington golf team. The money was raised at the Rauschenbach Pro-Am.

Washington Yacht and Country Club hosts an annual event in the Rauschenbach Pro-Am. It is held in the memory of Washington High School graduate Carlos Rauschenbach. After graduation, he went on to attend East Carolina University and Campbell before pursuing his dreams of becoming a professional golfer.

This year, the proceeds from the event were donated to Washington’s golf team. It was the first time the funds raised were donated back to Rauschenbach’s alma mater.

“It’s in memory of Matt and Alba’s son, Carlos, who played on the Washington golf team,” said Washington Yacht and Country Club president Daniel Bergevin. “He went on to a career as a PGA professional and died suddenly in an auto accident.”

He was just 29 years old.

“It’s been very important for us this year to make sure the money raised went to the high school golf team,” Bergevin said. “It’s an important part of the Rauschenbach’s that his legacy lives on through donations to the school.”

Bergevin added that the idea is to continue raising the bar each year. The Rauschenbach Pro-Am will continue to be an annual event. He credited Steve Lee and Lee Chevrolet, a corporate sponsor of the event, for helping it take off.

The Pam Pack golf program was presented with a check for $1,025.

“The golf team and myself are very excited,” said coach Jim Kozuch. “We’re looking forward to going out to start the season with some flashy new gear. Hopefully if you look good you play good. We’re very happy and we’re ready to kick off a nice new year.”

Kozuch, who also coaches Washington’s state runner-up soccer team, said he was invited to play in the pro-am. He couldn’t attend because it was during the thick of soccer playoffs and conflicted with practice.

The Pam Pack is excited to follow up last season, which culminated in a fourth-place finish at the 2-A state championship.
