STANDOUT: Quentin Van Essendelft was the Knights’ top player in their rout of Northeast. He was an offensive catalyst with 19 points and 10 assists.

BOYS: TERRA CEIA 97, NORTHEAST 46

PANTEGO — Five players scored in double figures and three had double-doubles as Terra Ceia walloped Northeast, 97-46. The win is the Knights’ 20th of the season and they remain perfect in NCISAA Tarheel Conference action.

Tyler Hendrix and Quentin Van Essendelft led scoring with 19 points apiece. Hendrix hauled in a game-high 15 rebounds and Van Essendelft dished out 10 assists. Chase Furlough had 17 points and 14 rebounds, making him the third Knight to record a double-double.

Ben Hubers added another 17 points and Messiah Barnes had 12.

Terra Ceia jumped out to an early 30-8 lead after just the first quarter. The Knights poured on another 32 points in the second to take a 62-24 lead into halftime.

Twenty-eight of their 37 made baskets were assisted on. Terra Ceia shot 51 percent from the floor, including 10-of-26 from behind the arc.

BOYS: PUNGO 54, LAWRENCE 30

BELHAVEN — Logan Van Staalduienn’s double-double helped Pungo top Lawrence despite an uncharacteristically poor shooting performance. The senior had 13 points and a dozen rebounds. Landon Woolard led the team with 15 points.

The Raiders went a dismal 2-of-17 from 3-point range, but made up for it by making 19-of-39 tries from inside the arc.

Their defense helped alleviate their lack of success from long range. Lawrence scored just 20 points in the first three quarters. Pungo owned a 34-15 lead at halftime.

With the exception of a home loss to Terra Ceia, Pungo remains perfect in league play. It will make for an interesting clash on Feb. 5 at Terra Ceia should the Raiders top Hobgood on Monday.

GIRLS: TERRA CEIA 52, NORTHEAST 50

PANTEGO — Terra Ceia edged Northeast thanks to strong performances from Christine Meijer and Rebecca Harrison. Each scored 17 points to help lift the Lady Knights to their eighth win of the season.

Meijer grabbed 14 boards and Harrison had a remarkable 13 steals, giving each a double-double. Nine of Harrison’s rebounds were on the offensive end, which produced valuable second-chance opportunities.

The Lady Knights as a team had 23 steals.
