Plymouth HOSA qualifies 16 at district conference

The Plymouth High School Chapter of HOSA-Future Health Professionals attended the District 1 HOSA Competitive Events and Leadership Conference held at Gates County High School on Nov. 5.

There were 12 schools from the across the district in attendance, with 310 registered competitors in 17 events. PHS HOSA had 29 members registered.

The day started with the opening ceremony where the HOSA members were greeted by the Gates County High School principal and superintendent of Gates County Schools.

Carla Hudson, PHS HOSA flag bearer, represented PHS HOSA carrying the local chapter flag in the Parade of Flags.

The day concluded with the awards ceremony at 2 p.m. and the district raffle for $100, which was won by Christina Bond.

Leading the awards ceremony was District 1 HOSA President and North Carolina HOSA State Officer Christin Bazemore from Gates County High School, assisted by Laneka Phelps, District 1 HOSA secretary representing PHS HOSA.

PHS delegates winning in their respective events and qualifying for state competition were:

 

  • Researched persuasive writing and speaking: Dajanique Sykes, first place
  • Healthy lifestyle: Adam Moore, first place
  • Extemporaneous health poster: Johnna Garrett, second place
  • Prepared speaking: Laneka Phelps, second place
  • Creative problem solving: Team 1-Jeremiah Bazemore, Destiny Blount and Breanna Kelly, second place
  • Job-seeking skills: Janell Kornegay, second place
  • Knowledge test, human growth and development: Daja Brown, second place
  • Job-seeking skills: Carla Hudson, third place
  • Knowledge test, human growth and development: Daja Brown, second place
  • Knowledge test, nutrition: Shakeynah Mays, third place
  • Medical math: Andrea Burnett, fourth place
  • Extemporaneous writing: Corey Rawlins, fifth place
  • CPR/first aid: Amoni Downing and Teyonna Saunders, 10th place

 

All 16 of these members will represent Plymouth High School and District 1 at the N.C. HOSA State Leadership Conference March 29-April 1, 2017, in Greensboro at the Sheraton Four Seasons-Koury Convention Center.

Also competing was: Colon Cherry, Erriel Cooper, Aryn Gibson, Javeyona Hyman, Nyliah Jones, Janell Kornegay, Aaliyah Moore, Jazmine Morgan, Shakera Norman, Tiyana Norman, Aaron Wilkins and Ashaun Wright.
