The 2017 Award for Excellence in Publishing for a Book of Abstracts of an Original N.C. Record was presented to the Hyde County Historical and Genealogical Society for its recent publication of “Early Hyde County, North Carolina Marriage Records: 1735-1899.” The book was edited by Linda Gray Mayo, who accepted the award in Raleigh on Oct. 28.

“This well-done and well-presented hardcover book abstracts one marriage contract, sixty-three marriage bonds, and over three thousand licenses and certificates, the later providing names of parents, race, date and place of marriage, officiant and witnesses,” according to N.C. Genealogical Society. The review continues by highlighting the book’s “clean, uncluttered appearance and easy to follow layout” and remarks that it is a “very valuable resource for Hyde County researchers.”
