Baseball and softball are underway in the collegiate ranks. Two 2017 Washington graduates made their debuts this past weekend: Tripp Barfield for UNC-Asheville and Hailey Harris for North Carolina Wesleyan.

UNC-Asheville began the season with a three-game set at Lipscomb. The Bulldogs dropped the first two games by a combined three runs, but salvaged the weekend with a 6-3 win on Sunday.

Barfield took the mound for the first time on Sunday. He relieved lefty Jordan Carr in the bottom of the sixth. He conceded a walk and induced a foul out to first base before handing the ball to another southpaw in junior Austin Fahr.

Hailey Harris darts for third base during a game in her senior season with Washington.

Harris and the Battling Bishops enjoyed a bit more success. They swept Piedmont International in a doubleheader on Sunday. Harris, a former standout pitcher and hitter for the Lady Pack, had an RBI double in the second game that pushed across Hannah Ivester for the final run in a 7-2 victory.
