A Chocowinity man is facing multiple sex crime charges in Pitt County, each of which allegedly involved a child younger than 13.

According to a press release from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, Edwin Lee Nobles, 82, of East Barr Road in Chocowinity, was arrested Wednesday and charged with three counts of first degree statutory sex offense involving a child younger than 13.

Court documents show the alleged incidents taking place over a three-day span from Sept. 25-27. According to PCSO Public Information Officer Sgt. Lee Darnell, the incidents all took place in Pitt County. Darnell declined to share specifics out of respect for the safety and privacy of the victim.

Nobles made his first appearance in Pitt County District Court on Thursday morning, and according to court records, he has been assigned a public defender. A Pitt County magistrate set Nobles’ bond at $1.5 million, which was not adjusted by the judge. He is currently being held in the Pitt County Detention Center, with his next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 23.
