CHOCOWINITY — At Unity Christian Academy, Administrator Jessica Crocker says the school’s plan is to return to the classroom with in-person instruction beginning Aug. 24.

Crocker says the school will be open five days per week, with social distancing protocols in place. Students will have their temperatures taken and go through a symptom screening each day when they arrive at school. Desks in classrooms will be arranged to be six feet apart, and the school will adhere to limits on large groups both inside and outside.

Masks will not be required in the classroom, though wearing one will be an option for parents and students if they so choose. Crocker says the school will also step up its efforts to clean and sanitize its rooms during the school day and at the end of the day. Time will also built into students’ schedules for frequent hand-washing breaks. UCA also has policies in place to respond should a student or staff member contract COVID-19.

“We cap our class sizes at 15 to take a smaller amount so we can follow those social distancing protocols,” Crocker said. “With that cap of 15, those classes are filling up fast.”
