NWS issues severe weather alert
The Morehead City Forecast Office of the National Weather Weather Service issued a briefing about severe weather that could affect eastern North Carolina between Sunday night and Monday morning.
Damaging wind gusts as high as 60 mph and an isolated tornado are the primary threats in the forecast, according to the NWS. There is a “marginal” risk of severe thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall is possible — particularly east of U.S. Highway 17.
Chris Newkirk, Deputy Director of Beaufort County Emergency Services, said his office is currently monitoring the threat of severe weather.
The NWS is expected to deliver another update by 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
