Key games remain for the area high school girls and boys basketball teams as the post-season draws closer. Four of the six teams could host playoff games if things go their way the next two weeks.

Washington: The boys were 13-6 overall and 6-1 in the Eastern Plains Conference going into Friday’s game at first-place Farmville Central.
Sophomore point guard Chaise Smith leads the EPC with 20.6 points a game and 3.6 steals. He’s second with 6.5 assists and 10th in rebounding. Junior Javon Williams is third in scoring (15.8), fourth in rebounding (8.3) and fourth in assists (3.6), while senior post player Gary Payne is the top rebounder with 10.2 per contest. The Pack has five games, all in the league, left in the regular season and can finish no worse than second if they win four of the five.
The girls are 2-13 overall and 1-6 in the EPC with five league games left. Junior Breanna Perry is second behind North Pitt senior and N.C. St. signee Zamareya Jones with 23 points a game.

Northside: The boys are 15-6 overall and 4-3 in the Coastal Palins 1A/2A Conference. 2A East Carteret is on top, with Pamlico County second. The Panthers host the Hurricanes in the regular season finale Feb. 8 with the conference tournament the following week.
Sophomore Malachi Moore is seventh in the league in scoring at 15.6, while senior Griffin Johnson is second with 8.3 rebounds and ninth with 14.5 points a game.
The girls are 15-3 overall and 4-3 in the CPC with two losses to first-place East Carteret and the other at Pamlico County. The Panthers have three games left against Jones, Lejeune and Pamlico County before the conference tournament. Junior guard Olivia Jane (O.J.) Cahoon is second in the league in scoring at 16.4, while senior Mariah Jones is fifth at 14.5.

Southside: The boys are 3-18 and 0-7 in the CPC with three games left. Junior Josh Armstrong is fourth in the league with 18.7 points a game.
The girls are 12-8 and 2-5 in the league, good for fourth place with three games left. Junior I’Kiriyah Minor is sixth in the league at 12.8 points a game while senior center Kaliah Moore in fifth with 7.3 rebounds.
