Washington senior Bryant Smith will wrestle for the 2A state title in the 157 lb. class Saturday in the Greensboro Coliseum.
Smith, the East regional champion will meet Cole Prichard of Morehead HS, the top seed in the Mideast regional for the title after a 4-3 decision over a West Lincoln opponent and a 13-9 victory over a Mt. Pleasant opponent.
“He’s the first state finalist we’ve had since I got here in 2012,” coach Chris Penhollow said. “He wrestled two great matches and I’m really proud of him.”
Four teammates need two wins Saturday to finish third including freshmen Sam Boltes (106) and Bryce Perry (113) along with sophomores Gabe Foreman (144) and David B. Meza (138).
“Bryce lost to the defending state champion in the semi-finals and Gabe’s semi-final guy is the two-time defending champ,” Penhollow said. “We had a great day on the mat and are in a good spot for Saturday.”
