UPDATE: As to why Isaac Lister was transferred to the Alternative Learning Program, Beaufort County Schools stated Friday that it was “in the best interest” of the school district. The district did not provide further information, citing personnel reasons. Public information records show that Lister will still be paid the same salary he received as a principal – $104,275.08.

Isaac Lister is no longer the principal at Washington High School, Beaufort County Schools confirmed on Wednesday, May 1. He remains an employee of Beaufort County Schools, and is currently working as an Instructional Support Leader at the Alternative Learning program located at Southside High School.

Rick Anderson has been named as the interim principal through June 30, 2024. Superintendent Dr. Matthew Cheeseman is working to staff the principal position by July 1, the school district shared.

The school district has yet to give a reason for the change in leadership. Lister was hired as Washington High School’s principal in July of 2023 after previously serving as an Assistant Principal at Northeastern High School in Elizabeth City, North Carolina for one school year. He replaced Jeff Sauls who served as Washington High School’s principal from 2021 to 2023 before being transferred to the Alternative Learning Program to be a Coordinator, Beaufort County Schools confirmed last year.
