Rifles seized in search

Firearms seized during a search of a convicted felon’s resident Monday, led to additional charges for Ashton Maurice Jones, 29, of 1008 N. Bonner St. in Washington, according to a press release.

The release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit said that Jones is currently serving a probation sentence for a prior drug-related conviction. The search, conducted by drug unit investigators along with Department of Community Corrections officers, also turned up quantities of prescription pain medications Hydrocodone and Oxycodone, digital scales, packaging materials and other drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

A spokesman for the drug unit said the four rifles were seized from the residence, along with small amounts of the prescription meds.

Jones was arrested and charged with possession of firearm by a felon, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, possession of a schedule III controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was confined at the Beaufort County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
