Love is in the air. For those seeking a romantic adventure, look no further than a stroll down Main, Market and Water streets during tonight’s Art Walk in Washington.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., a Valentine’s buffet of art and refreshments will be offered to those wandering in and out of downtown galleries and other participating businesses.
Starting at the corner of Main and Gladden streets, a Beaufort County Arts Council retrospective exhibit of artist Irene Glover Forbes will be available for viewing at the Civic Center.
A trip down Main Street will feature a glass-etching demonstration at Coldwell Banker Coastal Rivers Realty, live music by the Beaufort County Traditional Music Association and painting demonstrations by featured artists Glenn Nelson and Jan Paysour at the Inner Banks Artisans’ Center, and new member-artists’ work and a plein air exhibit by painter Lois Virginia Babb.
“We have a wonderful, wonderful exhibit going on,” said Jayne Wall, with River Walk Gallery, of the landscape oils on display. “The paintings are all painted from life.”
Wall said many of the paintings are accompanied by original field study sketches Babb used as a guide for more detailed painting done in the studio.
“It’s a very beautiful show,” Wall said.
Neil Loughlin, owner of Lone Leaf Gallery, said Lone Leaf’s latest exhibit — “The Places In Between” — is an exploration of landscape, of the subtle color shifts that make up eastern North Carolina. Anthony Ulinski’s paintings capture changing seasons reflected by the buildings, farms and towns he’s seen on drives from Raleigh to the coast.
Around the corner, tucked into a snug space on Water Street, is Art Tyndall’s studio.
“Art’s working space, along with his paintings that depict local scenes, is a great experience for those who want to see what a real artist’s studio is like,” said Joey Toler, BCAC executive director.
Included in tonight’s Art Walk is a sneak preview of the newest business to become a part of the shopping galleria Little Shoppes of Washington: South Market Antiques.
According to Toler, tonight is a great opportunity to celebrate both romance and art (and perhaps grab some dinner) in downtown Washington.
