Here at Ruth’s House, we wanted to share this letter we received with the wonderful citizens of Beaufort County, who are the backbone of Ruth’s House. For confidentiality we deleted the victim’s name and asked her for permission to share this document.

 

 

Dear Staff and volunteers of Ruth’s House,

 

As I make the final plans to start a new life and depart from my beloved Washington, the most important item on my list is to express my sincere appreciation for the help and support I received from Ruth’s House.

I never could have imagined the position that I found myself in and looking back, if not for the security, guidance, care and support of Ruth’s house I am not sure how I would have managed or survived.

I was amazed at the ability of the staff and volunteers to provide such care, never judging, never making one embarrassed for their situation, just caring guidance to help make sense of a tumultuous situation.

I owe the deepest of gratitude for the opportunity to regain my self-respect, self-worth and my life back thanks to the security of Ruth’s house. And the ongoing sessions with Patsy have given me a greater understanding so I man never find myself in this difficult situation again.

I only hope that I will be able to “Pay it forward” and help others as these selfless volunteers and staff members helped me.

At a time when there appeared to be nothing good about the world, Ruth’s house offered a light and hope.  I will never be able to express my true appreciation, but hope that my sincere attempt will offer some reward for deeds well done.

I will carry the lessons learned and kindness received at Ruth’s House for the rest of my life.
