The Washington Kiwanis Club has awarded $1,200 scholarships to four local Key Club seniors. From Washington High School were Elizabeth Miller and Christian Crompton. Crompton was also the Christopher Francisco Memorial Scholarship recipient. The remaining two recipients will be honored at the next club meeting.

In comments to the club, Ms. Miller announced her intention to attend UNC Chapel Hill to major in biology while Mr. Cromption told the members that he would attend NC State and intended to major in engineering.

Funding for the scholarships and other club projects comes from community activities including the Annual Lobster Sale, the Washington / Kiwanis Christmas Parade and the upcoming Golf Tournament scheduled for Saturday, June 28 at the Washington Yacht & Country Club.

The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
