On Aug. 16, 2014, at approximately 12 p.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office

received a report of a sexual assault of a juvenile which occurred at a residence on Mill Road in Chocowinity. Deputies responded and learned of an additional sexual assault of a second juvenile by the same suspect. An investigator responded to the scene, conducted interviews and gathered evidence.

As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, deputies

arrested Derrick Antoine Murray, 43, of Mill Road in Chocowinity, and charged him with indecent liberties with a child and three counts of selling or delivering a controlled substance to a minor under 16 years of age but more than 13 years of age. Murray was brought before Magistrate David Curtis and released after posting a $20,000 secured bond.

The investigation into the incident continued in conjunction with an ongoing investigation into a report alleging sexual assault in April of 2014. On Sept. 5,

Investigator Jonathan Fowler applied for and obtained warrants charging Murray with statutory sex offense of a person who is 13, 14, or 15 years old, sex offense by subject in a parental role, disseminating obscene material to minor, indecent liberties with a child, two counts of solicitation of prostitution from a minor and misdemeanor sexual battery. Murray was arrested on Sept. 10 and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $100,000 secured bond issued by Magistrate Donald Sadler.
