Chocowinity Middle School hosts Awards Night

CHOCOWINITY MIDDLE SCHOOL RECOGNITION: Chocowinity Middle School held two end-of-year ceremonies on June 9 to celebrate the completion of another successful school year. An Awards Day ceremony was held in the afternoon to recognize fifth, sixth, and seventh-graders, who showed excellence in their classes. Classroom certificates were given for citizenship, highest average and perfect attendance, among others. One student from each grade was given a plaque for having the highest overall average for their grade levels. The students receiving that award were Patrick Tyler, fifth grade, Sarah Petty, sixth grade and Adriana DeMercurio, seventh grade. On the evening of June 9, CMS held its Moving Up ceremony, where it recognized its eighth-graders and their accomplishments from the school year. Certificates were given to 131 eighth-graders as they were promoted to ninth grade. Dale Cole, principal of Southside High School, spoke to the class after Victoria Hernandez, student body president, welcomed everyone. Class awards were also given for eighth grade classes, and the highest average award was given to Colton Dixon for having the highest overall average in eighth grade.
