Feb. 5, 1933 – July 20, 2015

Robert Alan Henley, 82, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015.  Bob was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Oscar N. and Mary L. Henley.  He was a graduate of Garner High School and UNC-CH. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  After a career in banking and commercial real estate, he led a small group of parishioners at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and founded the Episcopal Housing Ministry.  As executive director, he loved being of service developing affordable housing for those in need in Raleigh and the surrounding areas.
Always an explorer and seeker, he was most at home at the helm of his sailboat or in a comfortable chair with a good book.  His faith and love of theology and philosophy lead him to EFM – a four-year education for ministry program.  Over the years he enjoyed involvement in his community through the Kiwanis Club, the “Sheltered Workshop” and St. Michael’s Vestry.
Bob will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jones Henley; son, Mark Henley of Washington, and daughters, Laura (Larry) Caison of Raleigh and Susan Henley of Wilmington; grandchildren, Will and Melissa Henley and Mary Cameron, John and Kirkland Caison; stepchildren, Cris (Janet) Jones, Virginia Jones,  Elizabeth (Chris) Mowbray and Sherwood Jones.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, July 27,2015 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Raleigh.  Committal will follow in the Memorial Garden.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael’s or The Episcopal Housing Ministry, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.
Hillside Funeral Service & Cremations, 4500 Hwy 264 E, Washington, has been given the honor of being entrusted with serving the Henley family.
