The George H. and Laura E. Brown Library (Brown Library) was awarded an N.C. Cardinal Migration Grant in the amount of $23,345 to serve the residents of the City of Washington and its surrounding areas. Library Services and Technology funds awarded by the State Library of North Carolina are made possible through funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

These federal funds are investments that help libraries deliver relevant and up-to-date services for their communities. The LSTA grant funded Equinox software to oversee data migration and onsite and remote staff training. In addition, the grant funded supplies and equipment that were needed to go live on a new online public access catalog integrated library system as part of the N.C. Cardinal consortium. N.C. Cardinal is a growing consortium of North Carolina public libraries with the goal of sharing resources and expanding opportunities through using a single online catalog. Brown Library is the 23rd library to migrate to NC Cardinal and the third municipal library.

“We are very excited about the resource sharing opportunities that the N.C. Cardinal consortium will enable us to provide our patrons that may have otherwise been out of reach,” said Brown Library Director Gloria Moore.
