Two charged with identity theft, forgery

On July 24, 2015, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a larceny at residence on Camp Leech Road in Washington. The victim reported the suspect took a book of checks. The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, conducted interviews, and collected evidence.

As a result, Investigator Jeremy Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Clarence Herbert Wainwright III, 33, of Ricks Street, Washington, with 14 counts of obtaining property by false pretense, 14 counts of identity theft, 14 counts of forgery of a instrument, 14 counts of uttering a forged endorsement, one count of possession of a counterfeit instrument, one count of larceny of a chose in action and one count of misdemeanor larceny. Investigator Jeremy Landeck applied for and obtained warrants charging Tina Lorraine Cahoon Jones, 53, of Seed Tick Neck Road, Belhaven, with one count of identity theft, one count of forgery of an instrument, one count of uttering a forged endorsement and one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

On Sept. 24, 2015, Wainwright was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $75,000 secured bond set by Magistrate Eric Holmes.

On Nov. 9, 2015, Jones was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $2,500 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis.
