Sound Off, Dec. 29

Contrary to what appeared in Wednesday’s community page, the Beaufort County Alzheimer’s Walk is sponsored by Alzheimer’s NC, not the National Alzheimer’s Association.

It’s a sad commentary that all seven Beaufort County commissioners are from the Washington area. Unfortunately, our county residents and voters are responsible for this situation by their voting patterns and their lack of vocal support for representation changes to the county commission. We can speed up changes to this situation by shopping in Greenville, New Bern or Plymouth until all county residents have representation on the county commission. Let’s do our shopping out of the county and be vocal on the situation.

Tacky, tacky, tacky is all I have to say about the lights on the trees on Main Street. It looks like something kindergarten kids would have done. Then to go on the waterfront and these beautiful wreaths are not lit up, and at night all you see is a shadow up there. Washington needs to do something about what’s on Main Street. It’s just nothing. It would be better not to have any lights at all.

Let’s hope the new year and a new governor in North Carolina bring needed changes to state government.

I just wanted to say a big, “thank you” for the luminaries Smallwood had on Christmas Eve. They were thoroughly enjoyed by our family and so many other families and I just want to say “thank you” to the people that live there. Thank you so much and have a happy New Year.
