To the Editor:

Regarding the controversy in Belhaven over the old hospital and Vidant:

When Belhaven rescinded the construction permit, they gave rather lame excuses.

The Post Office and Food Lion areas have to be commercially zoned and that was the area where the 19.4 acre construction site is. Furthermore, if Vidant purchased the old hospital, did they not purchase the contents? If so, why can’t they do what they want with the contents?

I believe the old hospital is subject to flooding. The new site not nearly so and can be built up so there would be little possibility of flooding.

All in all, it seems to me that Vidant’s plans would be a really positive improvement

for that area and that Belhaven is being shortsighted.
