Worthy of an investment

Alvin Powell, president of the Beaufort County Police Activities League, was to appear before the Washington City Council to explain the programs the organization plans to offer area youth this summer.
Although the Beaufort County Police Activities League has been in existence just a few years, it continues to develop a reputation for providing young people programs and experiences to help them improve their academic prowess and prepare themselves for careers in rewarding fields such as law enforcement, aviation and education. The organization’s STEM program — science, technology, engineering and math — offers area youth pathways to improving their education and career choices.
Although the city may face a problem with bringing in revenues for the upcoming city budget, city leaders should consider providing financial assistance or some other forms of assistance to help PAL carry out its summer programs. The city’s support of programs provided by the Purpose of God Annex have proven to be a wise investment. A similar investment opportunity awaits the city should it decide to support PAL and its mission.
Not only should the city support PAL and its programs, but also the Beaufort County community has a whole should support, in whatever forms it can, the PAL mission. PAL is making a positive difference in Beaufort County.
That difference is worthy of support.
