Though it is going to be a smaller location, Ruth’s House Charity Fund Raiser Antique and Collectibles store still has the same focus — raising money for its fight against domestic abuse.

The current shop at 140 W. Main St. is closing because of the building condition, but that hasn’t stopped the Washington-based charity from continuing to sell antiques.

Last week, they sold items at the old store at a discounted price and welcomed people to the shop for the soft opening.

Ruth’s House began moving its antiques and collectibles to its new location at 228 W. Main St., last week. They hope to have the grand opening on Friday.

During the setup of the store last week, Ruth’s House volunteers didn’t turn anybody way that wanted to purchase an item.

The volunteers who work at the shop cannot take the smile off their faces, even if it is a smaller building. They know the importance of selling one of their antiques because it goes to supporting individuals who have been abused.

“It’s a growing business here because most people love coming in and knowing their money is going to a good cause,” said Barbara Robitaille, a Ruth’s House volunteer. “They get something for their donation.”

Ruth’s House Charity Fund Raiser Antique and Collectibles shop only takes donations, which go directly to the cause.

The shops items include, paintings, tables and chairs, dinnerware, fireplace tools and more.

Ruth’s House has had great success in 2014, raising $25,000 from Our Amazing Race, and Apollo’s Steakhouse monthly Celebrity Chefs raising nearly $1,000.

Beaufort County comes together to help one another, and this is another one of those instances. People should visit the shop to help the charity and in the process, find something to add to their home.
