DURHAM — The Goodwill Community Foundation (GCF) has received the CARE Award (Children are the Reason for Excellence) given by the Boys & Girls Clubs North Carolina Area Council. GCF was presented the award at the Council’s annual meeting on Oct. 3, in Raleigh for its outstanding, devoted and enduring service to children, community and Boys & Girls Clubs across North Carolina.

This award is given to an individual or business not directly affiliated with a club organization (such as serving on the governing body or club staff), but has provided outstanding in-kind or direct support to their local Boys & Girls Clubs or Boys & Girls Clubs across the state. GCF was nominated for the award by Misty Marston, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs serving Pitt, Lenoir, Beaufort and Greene counties.

GCF provides accounting services to six Boys & Girls Clubs in eastern North Carolina, grants to help them with programs and services, and school supplies and holiday stockings for their members.

In accepting the award, Dennis McLain, president of GCF thanked those gathered for allowing GCF’s resources to be used to benefit the children that they serve, giving them the opportunity for a better life.
