River Walk Gallery will present award-winning writers reading from their works at a new event: Sunday Afternoon Tea at River Walk Gallery.
On Sunday, the mother-daughter team of Angela Silverthorne and Tia Bach will read from “Depression Cookies,” a story of love and family written in two distinctive voices. The novel was a silver-award winner in the realistic fiction category of the 2011 Readers Favorite Book Awards and a finalist in the 2011 Next Generation Indie Book Awards.
Silverthorne’s nephew, Marty Silverthorne, was the recipient of a 2011-2012 North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship and is an award-winner in his own right: his first collection of poems, “Dry-Skin Messiah,” won the Bunn McClelland Chapbook Award and his third collection, “Pot Liquor Poetry,” was selected for the Persephone Press Award. Marty Silverthorne’s poetry has been described as vivid and poignant, delivered by down-home prose.
The public is invited for an afternoon of literature springing from roots dug deep in the sandy eastern North Carolina soil. The authors’ books will be available for purchase.
Sunday Afternoon Tea at River Walk Gallery is at 2 p.m. Sunday at 139 W. Main St., Washington. Refreshments will be served.
