We are two weeks away from the autumnal equinox. Temperatures are flirting near 90, students are completing their second week of school and we are only four days removed from Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer.
What better time to begin your Christmas shopping while showing your support for a local nonprofit organization?
The Blind Center is hosting its annual Autumn Area Craft Show from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. today and Saturday.
Artisans will be on hand to display and sell hand-made items, including wreaths, jewelry, wine bags, pottery, soaps, painted glass, cross-stitch memory boards, wooden stools and felt scarves.
With the help of staff members and volunteers, The Blind Center clients create their own items which are sold in the center’s gift shop.
Raffle prizes include a hand-made quilt from Peggy Jones, a necklace and earrings set made of sterling silver and freshwater pearls by Valda Belyeu and an oak foot stool with a woven seat made at the center.
Your hunger for deals can be satisfied with a stop in the food court.
For over 30 years, The Blind Center has served as a refuge for the blind or visually impaired. Located at the corner of Harvey and Third streets in Washington, the center is funded through grants and special yearly events like the craft show. Friends of The Blind Center also supports the mission with its membership drive and donations.
