NCISAA Tarheel Conference representatives, who met Tuesday evening to determine the fate of this year’s annual baseball tournament, have decided to cancel the three-day long event due to numerous incomplete regular season schedules from most of the six teams.

Throughout the season, inclement weather has caused extensive rescheduling and game cancellations, resulting in six teams that have played anywhere from seven to 10 conference games. With seeding day for the NCISAA baseball state tournament this Sunday, the conference committee concluded it would be difficult to finish out the season, especially with the threat of more severe weather in this week’s forecast.

The first round of the state tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 6. Pungo is currently ranked No. 4 in the state, one spot behind Lawrence, according to Raiders’ head coach John Scott Cutler.

For softball, with seeding day not scheduled until Wednesday, May 7, the committee decided to go ahead and have the TIC softball tournament at Lawrence Academy, beginning with the first and second rounds on Monday, May 5 and finishing on Tuesday, May 6 with the championship game. In the first round, Pungo will face rival Terra Ceia at noon, the winner playing either Lawrence or Hobgood in round two.

Lawrence Academy will also host this year’s TIC golf tournament also scheduled to begin on Monday at the Scotch Hall Preserve in Merry Hill.
