In the midst of all the holiday shopping and decorating, a long-standing tradition among Americans, holiday parties, serve not only as a means to unwind at the end of the year, but for some, it holds much deeper meaning.

Whether it’s a company party, a personal/social gathering among friends or a family get-together, the tradition of holiday parties is, more or less, a bonding experience. For co-workers and employers, it’s a good way to get to know whom you work with on another level. It’s a time to bond with those co-workers/employers/employees and, more or less, show them appreciation for what they do and the challenges you face together on a daily basis. Gatherings at this time of the year can be quite enjoyable.  Food, fun and fellowship are always a good combination.

For some, an end of the year party or gathering may be a time to reflect on the year past or a time to look ahead to the coming year. Either way, take time to thank those individuals for what they do and who they are.

Holiday parties, traditionally, consist of some kind of refreshments — hors d’ouevres, baked goods, deserts, etc. — as well as some form of gift exchange. A few options include Secret Santa, Dirty Santa or just a regular gift exchange, depending on the preference of those involved. Some families, friends or other group may choose to gather to play games, or, for a laid-back atmosphere, just sit around, listening to Christmas music and sharing conversation.

This Christmas, don’t be a scrooge. If the opportunity arises, participate in gatherings, activities and other festive events. Regardless of the setting, though some are more intimate than others, the concept of a Christmas party is one that enhances the seasonal festivities, brings people together and creates long-lasting memories among loved ones, friends and co-workers.
