JONATHAN ROWE | DAILY NEWS CREATIVE IDEAS: John Small Elementary held its second annual Wise Guys Invention Convention Thursday, where the school’s enrichment students showcased inventions. Fourth-grade enrichment students were tasked with creating inventions of their own, which were on display at the invention, and fifth-grade students showcased international and domestic inventions that are already patented. The fifth-grade students presented the inventions through exhibits in the school’s multipurpose room. Kathryn Bryant, the enrichment teacher at John Small, said the fourth-graders will study advertising their inventions and learn advertising techniques and marketing strategies. Pictured, (top) fifth-grade enrichment students play a game created by three students that involves placing pictures of inventions in order of when they were created in history. Pictured, (middle, left) Owen Ximenez Duenas, a fourth-grader, showcases his Lazy Trash Takeout, a chute that is meant to run from a home to the trash bin outside, which makes for easier trash disposal, Owen said. Pictured (middle, right) is an invention that involves simple and easy cleaning of stuffed animals. Pictured, (below) is a timeline, created by a fifth-grader, which illustrates the invention of roller skates and how the invention has transformed over the centuries. Other exhibits included inventions that are obsolete and no longer used, as well as a survey that polled attendees on what invention they thought changed the world in the biggest way.
